Description:

The Ealing Mencap Connexions project provides information, advice and guidance for young disabled people aged 16-25 years.

We have 2 project workers called personal advisers who will work with young people and/or their families on a one-to-one basis.

Deanna works with young people in college to support them in making a successful move on from education into training or work. Alternatively she can support young people to find other leisure or voluntary activities. She also provides a drop in service for young disabled people on specialist courses at West London College - Acton and Southall sites.

Julie works with young people who are not in education, employment or training (known in Connexions Jargon as NEET) to help them to find meaningful activities to do whether this is voluntary work training, employment or a leisure/day time activity.

She runs a number of support groups aiming to provide opportunities for young people to get together and increase their self-esteem and self confidence.

Both workers can provide information on a range of different issues including employment, work experience, college courses, training courses, leisure and social activities, housing, benefits etc.

They can act as advocates to support young people in getting the right support and services that meet their needs.

They can be a link person for the different agencies involved with young people.
