Hello there, Well it's nice to be here, following in Anne's very capable footsteps. I have been trawling through the web site since I started caretaking and have been doing various 'geeky' things also. Now, however, I am starting to review the newsletters, resources, reading and news sections of the site. So hopefully we'll get back to doing what Anne always insisted was at the heart of EalingHELP and that is the content! I have found several things of interest on my web travels including the following: - Dyslogic Syndrome This looks like an interesting read, the author recalls the time when his son was diagnosed with autism in the early fifties and, guess what, it was all down to bad parenting. Ring any bells? He brings the story bang up to date in this book.
- Recently added Newsletters I have managed to add a few Newsletters from our regular sources. Look at the Learning Disabilites December issue which has an article about a 'brain chill' procedure on a child starved of oxygen for 10 minutes during her birth.
- Inclusion of Disabled Children in School Playgrounds Anne and I have often found break times to be one of the greatest problems faced by our son Luke. This report offers useful guidelines for schools to follow.
- make school make sense The National Autistic Society's make school make sense education campaign aims to improve educational provision for children with autism, so that every child can get the education they deserve.
I hope you find these links informative and I will try, over the next few weeks to find some more for you. Please let me know if there's anything specifically you would like us to feature. Myself and Jen Moseley from Ealing Mencap will be writing the editorials over the next few weeks either seperately or together. However for today I just thought I'd write and introduce myself. You can write to me using the 'Contact Us' link at the top of this page.
Best regards,
Nick Radclyffe
