How was that for you?

I hope you had a wonderful time over Christmas and New Year's Eve. As always it's a time to reflect on what has happened during the past year and to look forward to the new one. Personally it was a mixed bag of a year, that one that has just gone. On reflection I suppose that the death of a parent is, in many ways, a passage in life. One that leaves a huge void in your life and somehow you change to fill the space that is left.

So, with that in mind, I look forward to rediscovering myself. Looking back at the man I have been and looking forward to the opportunities that come my way and to use them to help others. I am looking for a sense of reciprocal honesty and trust in the way our children are allowed to develop and grow. For the ability to be excited about what lies ahead, rather than anxious, apprehensive and nervous. For us to share this with others to help their own particular journey.

Looking forward

We had, as a family, some fabulous times over Christmas, including, for the very first time, a trip to the ballet. We went to see The Nutcracker at the ENO. Which was magnificent. However it got me to thinking, and this is where you come in: often when you visit a web site to make a booking for the cinema, theatre or concert it is difficult to find out what concessions are available for people with disabilities and their carers or parents. What I would like to do is produce a section on the site which outlines all these details. What I would like you to do is let me know if you have been out with your families and whether you were offered a discount or a free place for a carer.

PESTs Handbook and the Parents' Forum

One of the major events of the New Year will be the production of the new PESTs Handbook. We're really looking forward to getting our information out to as many people as possible and for those who don't have ready access to the web or who prefer their information in printed form, the Handbook is invaluable.

The PESTs Handbook has been around in various guises for quite a few years now and has proven to be an invaluable resource to many parents. In it you'll find a lot of the information we have here on the site and more.

I am looking forward to my first day's CATBase training on Friday. This is the software that will allow us to publish the information contained on the site in printed form. I'll let you know how I get on.

Ealing HELP and PESTs are collaborating on the production of the new Handbook starting in the New Year and at the next Parents' Forum we hope to find out from you exactly what you would like to be included. So please make a note in your diaries to come along on the 12th January. You can find all the details in the Events Calendar. Sue Meacham and myself are looking forward to seeing you there.

Posters and Fliers

We are working on a new series of posters to promote the site and let everyone know we are here. I hope to post the images on the site over the next few days so you can have a sneak preview of what is to come.

Our events calendar 2010

A New Year and lots of new things happening. Make sure you let me know if you're running an event so that I can include it. If it's not there then no one will know about it. This is so exciting!!! We've been waiting for something like this for years.

Google Translation

This facility is still contained within this editorial section until we find it a permanent home so please be patient. These things can take a while!
